Word of the Weekgoing multi-ball — A synonym for going mental. Literally, a state of flux, as in the multi-ball stage of a pinball game, wherein the player must keep two or more balls in play.

Photobucket

As usual when I’m on deadline (which is pretty much always ) & nearing the end of a book (which isn’t nearly often enough ), I have been a bit scattered lately. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say I’ve been completely multi-ball, but I have felt a bit like the inner workings of a pinball game.

However, I am very happy to report that INHERITING HIS SECRET CHRISTMAS BABY (Book 6 of “Dynasties:  The Jarrods” for Silhouette Desire, December 2010) is finished & polished & turned in to the appropriate authorities.

Which means that I’ve got about six seconds of freedom to breathe easy & attempt to catch up.  And one of the things I just realized I really dropped the ball on is announcing winners for some of our recent Dungeon giveaways.  So let’s rectify that, shall we?

Starting with the most fun stuff first…

Our March guest blogger, Addison Fox, is generously giving away an autographed copy of her debut paranormal romance, Warrior Ascended, each week that she’s here with us in The Dungeon.  (And the third week she’s tossing in a $25 Barnes & Noble gift certificate—how cool is that? )

Well, she’s been here twice already, which means we’ve got two books to give away today.

We’ve got some prizes to give away today…better late than never, remember.  Better late than never.  (Although we’ll wait to pick a winner for yesterday’s giveaway; today I’m just playing catch-up. )

First, to catch up with our AuthorIsland/WIPs and Chains “Cyber Launch Party Redux.”  As you know, the party started over at AuthorIsland to celebrate the release of KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP, but when I couldn’t manage to post a comment of my own by hook or by crook, we moved the party over here.

And just like at AuthorIsland, I offered to give away a copy of one of the first books in the “Chicks with Sticks” trilogy, either TANGLED UP IN LOVE or LOVES ME, LOVES ME KNOT—winner’s choice.

And so…

Word of the Week: hockey hickey — a bruise or welt appearing on a hockey player’s body due to a puck impact, which looks like a hickey.

Not only did KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP hit the shelves yesterday, but I finally drew names for the It Pays to Be a Heidi Betts Fan” Giveaway from last month.

The prizes are two $25 gift cards to JoAnn Fabric—one to a brand new member of the HeidiBetts’sHappyBookers Yahoo Group & one to a new member of the Fans of Heidi Betts Facebook Page.

So here we go…

PhotobucketHappy Sunday, everyone!  And more, Happy First Sunday of the New Year! Welcome to 2010!

We’ve got a bit of catching up to do this week, since the Christmas festivities threw me off my game (not difficult to do, even without the hectic nature of the holidays ) & I missed announcing the winners of our December giveaways in a timely manner.

As you know, guest blogger Leanne Banks generously offered to give away three autographed copies of her January Silhouette Desire, FROM PLAYBOY TO PAPA! Copy #1 has already been awarded, but the other two have not.

And so, from Leanne’s second & third week visits…

MySpace Smiley Sign Generator

  TigMode & Beverly G.!!!

Congratulations, ladies!  Please contact me with your names & mailing addresses, & I will forward the information to Leanne so she can send out your books.

hbhdghbsjk Pictures, Images and PhotosWe also have to offer a hearty congratulations to our own Darling Maisey, who gave birth to her third child—but her first baby girl—just before the New Year.  (December 30th, if I’m not mistaken.)

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist the graphic.  I’m pretty sure Maisey does know who the father is, but she’ll enjoy that all the same.)

In all seriousness, though, CONGRATULATIONS, MAISEY!!!  We’re all very happy for you & hope you & little Baby Alani are doing well!  She is adorable!

And since this wouldn’t be Super Sunday without all of the Darlings sharing the great things that are going on in their lives right now, feel free to jump in with your own good news.  Tell us what Santa brought you for Christmas or what your plans are for the New Year!

super Sunday

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

We’ve got prizes to give away today, which makes this a very Super Sunday, indeed!

First is an autographed copy of Leanne Banks’s From Playboy to Papa! from her visit last week.  This is the first title in her new “Medici Men” mini-series for Silhouette Desire, which won’t be released until January, so three of you (over the course of this month) will be getting very lucky sneak peeks.

  Jen E.!!!

Congratulations, Jen!  Please contact me with your mailing information, which I’ll forward to Leanne so she can get your book to you.

And I hope everyone will pop in again this week, on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22nd when we’ll be tossing a few of Mistress Heidi’s infamous interview questions Leanne’s way.

And remember, for those of you who have won, but may not already be daily visitors & frequent commentors at WIPs and Chains, by tossing your names into the bubbling cauldron of naughty & nice, you’ve pretty much signed in blood & made a solemn vow to become dedicated & subservient Darlings of The Dungeon. Don’t make Mistress Heidi get out her whip & track you down…you won’t like it if she does.

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

First, we have prize winners to announce!   We’re a little more behind on this than usual, but it was a holiday month, so please don’t hold it against us.

Our wonderful guest blogger for November, Mindy Klasky, dug into her magic hat…or perhaps it was her magic lamp genie Pictures, Images and Photos…& drew names for all three of her book giveaways.

Prize #1 is an autographed copy of Sorcery and the Single Girl, the second book in her “Jane Madison” series.

Happy sunday Pictures, Images and PhotosHappy Sunday, everyone!

Big stuff to share & announce today, & I know you’re probably all waiting with bated breath, given the fun we had in The Dungeon this past week.

First, we have a winner for the “A Few of My Favorite Things” birthday giveaway.  That would be this :

100_0367

  Hollie!!!

Congratulations, Hollie!  You know the drill—contact me with your mailing information & I’ll get your prizes out to you as soon as I can.  (It won’t be easy to part with them, though, because as I’ve mentioned before, these are some of my favorite things! )

Photobucket

Second, we also have a winner for the Animal Friends Book Bonanza Fundraiser.

Dee!!!

Congratulations, Dee!  Please contact me with your mailing (&/or shipping—I’m not sure yet how I’ll be sending your prize LOL) information so I can get your gigantic box of 30 books to you.

Thank you to Dee & everyone who sent donations to help the Animal Friends of Elk & Cameron Counties.

I am thrilled to report that we raised $145.00…& I fully intend to add a check of my own to help round that out to an even larger, even more helpful number.

Truly, thank you SOOOOO much. You can’t know how proud I am of everyone who contributed, & how happy it makes me to know that we’ll be providing such love & care to some very needy homeless kitties. At this time of year, especially, the money will be put to very good use!

Thank You Pictures, Images and Photos

P.S.  Remember that Mindy Klasky will be with us tomorrow for the first of three visits this month!  It’s going to be fun, so you definitely don’t want to miss it.

prizes & reminders

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Can you believe it’s Sunday again already?  Of course, you guys have probably been counting down the seconds, since you knew today is the day I’d be announcing the winner of our September guest blogger, Jaime Rush’s, fabulous new release, OUT OF THE DARKNESS!

Okay, okay, I won’t make you wait any longer.

Natalie!!!

Congratulations, Natalie! Please contact me with your mailing information, which I’ll pass along to Jaime so she can send you this great new book to add to your collection.

Photobucket

In case you haven’t already noticed the mysterious going-ons (or is it goings-on?) in the sidebar, I also want to give everyone a heads-up that some VERY FUN changes are headed our way.

Provided we don’t hit any speed bumps before morning, I’ve got a BIG SURPRISE planned for first thing tomorrow.   That’s Monday, people, MONDAY!

Please, please make a mental (or hand-written, if necessary ) note & be sure to check back.  This is something you DO NOT want to miss!

On a completely different topic, I was planning to do something related to our usual Super Sunday routine today, but I have to tell you, this has not been a super week for me.  Far from it.  And I’m not sure I have the energy to grasp for things to be happy about right now.

So I’m taking the easy way out & simply reposting the the previous weeks’ Animal Friends Fundraiser reminder.  Forgive me.  Maybe by next Sunday I’ll have a few things that could be considered “super.”  One can hope, anyway.

Photobucket

For a while now, I have been wanting to do something to something to help raise money for a wonderful organization right in my back yard, the Animal Friends of Elk & Cameron Counties. Animal Friends is a no-kill shelter that houses a number of adorable rescues cats & kittens in need of a good home. They also work with those who are more feral to help them become human-friendly & nurse those with medical issues back to health.

And though I have long been a proud supporter of Animal Friends of Elk & Cameron Counties, I’ll admit that my recent brush with Little Miss Interstate kitty has spurred me to get my butt in gear & do this already.

Since I’ve given this a lot of thought but never actually put my plan into motion before, this is going to be a trial run. But I’m relying on you guys to make it a huge success so we can hopefully do it again…& again…& again. Especially since I have a lot more books saved up & ready to send out for future “good cause” fundraisers.

So here’s how it works: I’ve got a big box of terrific books I’d like to send to one lucky winner of a fundraising drawing. All proceeds from this will go directly to Animal Friends of Elk & Cameron County. In fact, you can make your checks or money orders out directly to them. (If the full name is too long to fit on your check, simply “Animals Friends” will be fine, I’m sure.)

For every dollar you send to help the kitties, you will receive one entry in the Book Bonanza drawing. (A cyber Chinese auction, if you will.) Send $1.00 (you cheapskate *vbg*), your name goes in the hat once…send $10.00, your name goes in 10 times…send $50.00, your name goes in 50 times…& so on & so on.

Send your donations (payable to Animals Friends or Animal Friends of Elk & Cameron Counties) to Heidi Betts, P.O. Box 99, Kylertown, PA 16847. U.S. residents & U.S. funds only, please. Remember, this is a trial run & I don’t quite have all of my ducks—or kitties, as it were—in a row yet. Let’s start out small & simple.

The other thing you might want to do is contact me once you’ve put your donation in the mail so I can keep an eye out for it. That way, if the date of the drawing rolls around & I haven’t received anything from you, I can drop you a quick note to let you know.

I’m going to give everyone a month to make their donations, picking a winner on my birthday, November 11th. (Unless things seem to be going well, in which case I might extend this deadline. Stay tuned for updates on that, just in case.) And this is not limited only to Darlings of The Dungeon. Please spread the word. The more, the merrier, & it’s for a really good cause.

However, to kick things off, I am going to award each of my Dungeon regulars who participate in this Animal Friends fundraiser one free entry, regardless of how much your total donation is. (Don’t worry, I know who you are, My Darlings. As soon as I see your name on the check, I’ll credit you your extra entry. )

If you’d like to know who & how your donations will be helping, visit the Animal Friends of Elk & Cameron Counties website.

If you’d like to know what titles will be included in the giant Book Bonanza fundraising giveaway, read on…

super Sunday

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Happy Sunday, everyone!  I hope you’ve all had a good week…one slightly less hectic & frazzled than mine would be nice.

Let’s begin with what I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for:  the prize announcement for Gena Showalter’s third-week guest blog, where she was giving away an autographed copy of the third book in her “Lords of the Underworld” series, THE DARKEST PLEASURE.

  Jane!!!

Congratulations, Jane!  Please contact me with your full name & mailing information, & I’ll pass it along to Gena so she can send out your book.

And speaking of Gena’s giveaways, I still haven’t heard from last week’s winners Laura J. & Kimberly.  If you guys want your books—& I know you do —be sure to send me your addresses so I can forward them to Gena!

As many of you know—& those of you who are on Facebook, Twitter, etc. know more than the rest —my life has been wicked crazy lately.   I will catch you all up soon, I promise.  But it’s sort of impossible for me to list a bunch of things I’m grateful for this week without mentioning a lot of what’s going on.

Which means I’m going to take a nice, big step back, finish dealing with the current crises in my life, & let the rest of you have a mini Out of the Cage Night (Super Sunday-style) here in The Dungeon.

Catch us up…  What’s been going on in your life lately?  What exciting events did you encounter this week?  What are you especially thankful for at the moment?

Mistress Heidi & I want to hear all about it. And then, we want you to…

super Sunday

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Since I know you’ve been on pins & needles all week waiting for this, allow me to get the best part of today’s post out of the way…naming the winners of Gena Showalter’s second-week guest blog giveaway.  That’s right, I said winners. Gena very generously drew two names from all of the comments to her interview last week & offered to send an autographed copy of THE DARKEST KISS to each.

  Kimberly & Laura J.!!!

Congratulations, ladies!  Please contact me with your full names & mailing information & I’ll pass it along to Gena so she can get your wonderful prizes out to you.

So what are we all feeling super-grateful for this week?  Anything?  Anything?

I’m thankful this week that it looks as though my shower will soon have a new enclosure, as the plumber called & said he thinks he found “just what we’ve been looking for.”  This is not a major job, simply the replacement of a cruddy, falling-apart shower lining with a new, less cruddy & not-falling-apart one.  You see, a few winters ago, we had a lot of trouble with frozen pipes & I kind of used a hair dryer & space heater to thaw them.  Unfortunately, intense heat is apparently not the greatest thing to put in close proximity to a plastic wall liner & the thing sort of warped a little.  Nothing I couldn’t fix with duct tape (have I mentioned that I am the Duct Tape Queen? ), but even that gets old after a while.  (And,  yes, we are talking about a strip—or two —of silver duct tape along the edges of an otherwise white panel.  Hey, I didn’t say it was pretty, just functional.

I am also excited to finally have the last picture I wanted to share with you from the RWA conference in Washington, D.C.  You remember the little devil horns I wore for the Literacy Autographing Wednesday night, right?  Well, I am now able to share with you the other alter-ego who accompanied me to Nationals this year.  I give you Sometimes Naughty/Sometimes Nice:

I also forgot to mention the wonderful quote that was on the notepads in all of the Marriott hotel rooms at the conference:  Leave a trail of genius.  I just love that.  (Which is why I stole a bunch to bring home with me.  Shhh—at least it wasn’t a robe or the light fixtures. )

Aside from that, it has been a fairly mundane, with nothing much either good or bad going on.  Just the usual routine of wake up, feed the cats, try to exercise, try to write, go to bed, wake up, feed the cats…   I just wish I were writing more & feeding less.

All right, your turn.  Anything you care to share with the world this week?

Oh, & don’t forget that the lovely Gena will be with us again tomorrow, to guest blog for the third & final time.  I’m going to miss her terrific sense of humor, but her post is a good one, so you don’t want to miss it.

I know because I got a sneak peek while putting it together.  Heheheh.

HAPPY SUNDAY Pictures, Images and PhotosHappy Sunday, everyone!  Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend…& staying cool, if your summer is turning out to be anything like mine.

Before we get sidetracked by our Super Sunday lists, I’ve got a little announcement to make that will hopefully add a bit of super to one of our Darlings‘ Sunday.

After her first guest blog post this past Monday, the lovely Gena Showalter picked a winner for the autographed copy of THE DARKEST NIGHT, Book #1 of her “Lords of the Underworld” series.

Congratulations, Barb!  Contact me with your mailing information so I can pass it along to Gena, & she’ll get your fabulous prize out to you.

I also want to let everyone who’s won a giveaway either here or over at Must Love Yarn recently that your prizes are on their way.  Those “loves me, loves me not” candy tins were a bit harder to find mailers for than I’d anticipated.  But if you haven’t already, you should be getting them soon!

So what wonderful things are going on with everyone this week?  I have to admit, my own list is a little short—things have just been busy & stressful & this heat is about to kill me—but I’m still going to look on the bright side & say…

I was able to finish Pandora’s Daughter by Iris Johansen this week.  I really enjoyed this one.  It grabbed me very early on, & it was hard not to just sit & read it all at once.

I also got it into my head to kick my cats’ raw diet up a notch & try a new type of food.  It took some tracking down…& more than a little trial & error.  (Cats can be sooooo finicky. )  But we’re making progress, & the good news is that the majority of the furbabies are coming around.  A couple of them even love the stuff—so there, you silly, stubborn hold-outs!

In the writing vector of my life, my St. Martin’s editor has given my revisions to KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP a big thumbs up!   The changes were very minor…although I do now have a short deleted scene to post closer to February …but I’m delighted to know she’s happy, the book has been handed off to the production department, & I can cross that worry off my list.

I was also finally able to begin working on the new The Book That Shall Not Be Named—i.e. my first paranormal romance for Kensington Brava.  It is so weird to suddenly be writing about vampires when that’s something I haven’t done in a very long time, but once I shrugged off my garlic lethargy & found my inner fangs, the story really took off.  I’m enjoying it greatly, it’s moving right along, & my fingers are crossed that by this time next year…well, no, not until October of next year…you’ll all be digging your own fangs into this one & enjoying it as well.

And last but not least, there’s a little something new going on, which I expect to announce officially on Tuesday.  So stay tuned!  It’s interesting, to say the least.

and the winners are…

Once again, I remind you that I am freshly back from RWA, but feeling anything but fresh & energized.  I’m not sure it’s possible for a person to take more naps without actually slipping into a coma or walk around in more of a stupor without being an actual zombie.

Besides, if I go into detail about all I have to be grateful for this week, it would totally ruin my RWA recap.  (Which is coming…someday…hopefully soon… )

So instead, I’m going to take this opportunity to announce the winners of all of the giveaways we’ve held recently…& which I mostly missed while I was away.
