Happy Banana Dancing here in The Dungeon.

I just got a gander at the artwork for THE GIFT OF LOVE, the benefit collection I’ll be a part of this coming June with the wonderful Lori Foster & a handful of other great authors.

Now, I had to steal this from Amazon since the PDF file Berkley sent didn’t tranfer well to WordPress, but I think you can still see how absolutely beautiful it is.

As I told Lori, it’s no cat butt cover—which I’ve always thought was one of the cutest things ever!—but then this one has me in it, so it evens out.

Knock Me for a Loop is HERE!!!

Groundhog Pictures, Images and PhotosI should be wishing everyone a Happy Groundhog Day right about now, but there are more important things going on today than whether or not some overgrown rodent sees his shadow!

You know what I’m talking about.

I’m talking about…

KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP

LAUNCH DAY!!!

That’s right. The long-awaited “Chicks with Sticks” Book 3, Zack & Grace’s story, is FINALLY here!  Yippee!

If you haven’t already pre-ordered your copy, I hope you’ll all run out & buy KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP today.  Though you may want to call ahead to make sure your local bookstore has it in stock; they can sometimes take a couple days to start showing up on shelves.

And encourage your friends to do the same!  Then invite them to join us here in The Dungeon.  You know we’ll show them a good time. (Well, maybe not that good, but you know what I mean. )

Also while you’re out & about, remember to take pictures of your “Book Sightings” & send them to me so I can post them in coming weeks.  And if you’re a Street Walker, remember to put all of that nifty promotional stuff I just sent out to good use.   (Okay, maybe not that good, but again, you know what I mean. )

Now, you all know about the recent brouhaha between Amazon & my publisher, Macmillan/St. Martin’s Press.  You probably also know that even though Amazon has supposedly capitulated, KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP is still not available (in either ebook or paperback form) via the Amazon website.

But we are not going to focus on that, nor are we going to let it get us down.  Instead, we’re going to spread the word that KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP can be purchased quite easily via Barnes and Noble.com, Borders, Books-a-Million, etc.  As well as brick-&-mortar bookstores across the nation—Barnes & Noble, Borders, Waldenbooks…  If they don’t have copies on the shelf when you get there, march right up to a store clerk & tell them to order one for you!  This is hugely helpful in letting stores know that there’s a demand for the book, & they might even order in a few extra while they’re ordering yours.   With luck, KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP will also be available at all your regular retail stores, such as Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart…  So check there, too.

Last but not least, we are going to have FUN today, because Author Island is hosting a Cyber Launch Party for Zack & Grace.  There will be chatting & a free book giveaway, & just oodles of funny, sexy, knitting-related fun!   So be sure to drop by & show your support, have a few laughs, & possibly win some pirate booty.

big freakin’ vampire dance

As many of you know, I finally finished my first vampire book for Kensington Brava (aka The Book That Shall Not Be Named…just yet) & can now take a big, shuddering breath of relief.  Ahhhhhh.

It feels so great to finally have this book written, polished, & turned in!  There were a couple of rough moments, let me tell you, but I am really happy with how it turned out!

Happy Vampire Avatar3 Pictures, Images and PhotosI also can’t wait until you all get to read it!  The particulars about this story are a little hush-hush at the moment, but it’s going to be so exciting to see what kind of cover treatment they give it, & to finally be able to share the title & deets.  You guys are going to be so amused when you hear.

And, yes, I know I need to jump rather quickly into the next big WIP …my first new title for Silhouette Desire in a couple of years, which I recently learned is going to be called INHERITING HIS SECRET CHRISTMAS BABY.  But before I do that, I am going to spare a bit of time to A.) relax & recover, & then B.) catch up on all the holiday stuff that’s been hanging over my head.  I’ve given Christmas about zero thought so far, but there are gifts to wrap, cards to send, packages to mail… Oy.

But the big news is still… I AM DONE!!!

So let’s celebrate, Dungeon-style.

An interesting thing happened to me last week.  My agent called & said, “I know you told me not to sell anymore books for you for a while…”

Yes, indeed, I did say this.  Yes, I know it probably sounds insane & may be the first time an author has ever taken her agent aside & told him/her, “You’re doing too good a job.  Stop now.  Take a break, you deserve it.”  But I am only one person, & because of the number of incredible things that have happened in my career lately, the sheer number of publishers who are expecting multiple books from me in the very near future, a line had to be drawn.

(That being said, if any fabulous editors or Hollywood film directors are reading this & are interested in my work in almost any capacity, I am still totally open to discussion, so—CALL ME! )

Any-hoo…

“But,” he continues, my Desire editor called & wants me to do the final book in a new six-book continuity series that will be released the last half of 2010—even before my next new return-to-Desire stand-alone is released.  Mine would be a secret baby story, & it has something to do with a food & wine festival in Colorado.

Can you see me bouncing in my seat? Bouncing Pictures, Images and Photos

I mean, A.) it’s a continuity, & as difficult as they can sometimes be to write (soooo many details & soooo much to keep straight, especially in the last he Pictures, Images and Photosbook where I have to juggle not only my own hero & heroine & storyline, but five others, as well), & B.) do you know how much I love food shows?  I have absolutely no idea yet how much of the story will revolve around food & wine, but picture this:  All those hours spent watching Top Chef, Iron Chef America, & Hell’s Kitchen can now be called RESEARCH!!!

Ah, the life of a writer.  Gotta love it. write Pictures, Images and Photos

The only problem was, where to stick it?  (And I mean that in the nicest way possible, I swear. )  My schedule is so crowded right now, & with the continuity coming out July through December 2010, the book would have to be written pretty darn soon.  Figuring out the details took a bit of work, but we were finally able to (hopefully) fit it in between the two vampire books for Brava.

I’ve gotta hustle, but I’m sooooo excited about being involved in this series.  It’s going to be called—at least tentatively—”Dynasties:  The Jarrods.”  And I think my characters’ names are Trevor & Haylie, but I’ll have to wait to get the bible to find out more details.

And just this once, I think I should forgive my overachieving agent for not following a direct order.

But that’s it—just this once, no more!

spicy Pictures, Images and PhotosWord of the Week: Spicy EditWhen telling a story to friends, you realize that the story you are telling isn’t as cool as you thought it was when you first started, and decide to edit it with exaggerations or lies to make it sound more interesting.

For instance, what I am about to tell you today will be the truth, but I’ll probably cut out all the boring stuff, so you can consider that a “spicy edit.”

And now…

Newsflash Pictures, Images and Photos

Wow, what an exciting Summer this is turning out to be!

You probably all remember that I mentioned a while back how much I’d been missing writing for Silhouette Desire, & that I was playing around with a couple of ideas to maybe get back in the fold.  So, soon after turning in the last book of my “Chicks with Sticks” trilogy, I put my powerful, passionate, Alpha male thinking cap on & worked up two outlines for stories I thought were suitable.

Sent them to the wonderful Diana Ventimiglia, who used to be my first Desire editor’s assistant, so we’ve worked together before.  (Which is how I know just how wonderful she is. )  Only a short week later, she got back to me saying she loved them, they were right up Desire’s alley, &—sweetest thing ever—where had I been? Awwwww. She was very interested in moving forward with a two book contract, but since I have been away for a while & a new Senior Editor has been put in charge of the line, they needed to see chapters.  Okay, no problem.  It was actually pretty good timing for me on that because I was still between projects.

***** Pictures, Images and PhotosSo I spent the next week or two working up the first two chapters of one of the stories.  I got to pick, so I went with the one I’m calling THE CEO’S SECRET HEIR.  Believe it or not, this idea is actually one I had a long, long time ago, back when I first started writing.  It was okay, but a couple of people had told me that in category romance I’d “never get away with” some of the elements I’d put into the story, so I shelved it.  Well, I’m older & much wiser now—at least where publishing is concerned —& I knew that I could get away with just about all of the elements in the original idea.  (Never give up!  Never surrender! )  There was some tweaking to be done, merely because I had to make sure it was 100% a Desire.  And when it came to the writing, I’ve grown there, too, so no way would I have submitted something from ten years ago.  I revamped & rewrote from scratch, but I used the old stuff as a guideline because some of it was still really good & definitely viable for the current tone of Desire!

Jump ahead two weeks & I turn in those chapters.  I was pretty happy with them, if I do say so myself.  And, gosh, even though it took a little time to wrap my head around writing for Desire again, once I was in there doing it, I had a blast!  (I swear, I think I was born to write Desires. )

Jump ahead another two weeks & I get a phone call—Diana & Krista (the new Senior Editor of the line…though she’s not so new now; she’s been there nine months, I think) both loved my chapters & made a two-book offer.

Whoo-hoo! Chicken Little Dance!   (This poor guy is really getting a workout this week, isn’t he? *g*)

I’m feeling slightly overwhelmed because now I’ve got the two paranormals to write for Brava & these two stories to write for Desire, but all I have to do is pace myself & I think I can do it.  And I am sooooo excited about all the nifty new books I get to write over the next year or so.

At the moment, Diana is talking about early & mid-2011 release dates for the tentatively titled THE CEO’S SECRET HEIR & A BABY IN THE BILLIONAIRE’S BOARDROOM…something like January & July…but nothing is definite yet.  We still have many details to iron out where that sort of thing is concerned.

But for now, I get to dance around, content in the knowledge that I’m back to being a Desire author…  And that I get to have lunch with Diana at RWA…  And attend the Harlequin party without feeling like a fraud…  And look forward to awesome artwork & writing about rich, handsome men who don’t know they’ve got secret babies out there toddling around…

It’s going to be so much fun, & I can’t wait to take you all along for the ride!

a first review for LOVES ME, LOVES ME KNOT

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Exciting day! The very first review for LOVES ME, LOVES ME KNOT has come in, & it’s a good one!

RT Book Reviews gave Jenna & Gage’s story 4-stars & said:

“You don’t have to be a knitter to love Betts’s brand of comedic romance—it will just add an extra dimension to your enjoyment of this hot, tender story of lost love reclaimed.”

Awwww. That’s so true. And what a perfect way to describe this book. (Wish I’d thought of it. )

I’m hoping for many more thumbs-up reviews of LOVES ME, LOVES ME KNOT & will share them with you as they come in—so stay tuned!

And

As though that isn’t exciting enough to have me bouncing in my seat, I’ve also just learned that REAL MEN LAST ALL NIGHT is currently #138 on the USA Today Bestseller List & #11 on BookScan’s Top 100 Romance Novels list.

If you are not already happy dancing, please do so immediately!  Chicken Little doesn’t want to be alone in his show of enthusiasm.

Before we get to our Drink of the Month, I just have to share the news that REAL MEN LAST ALL NIGHT is currently #23 on the New York Times Bestseller list!

Ohmigod!  Ohmigod!  Whoo-hoo! Whoo-hoo!

I realize, of course, that I didn’t have a heck of a lot to do with this.  Only a handful of people—most of them our very own Darlings of The Dungeon, I would guess —probably bought the book because my name was on it, but I was in the room when the magic happened, so I’m going to step up & take at least part of the credit.  One quarter?  One-sixth?  One-eighteenth?  Well, it’ll be something, anyway.  You just see if I don’t!

The Firecracker

1/2 oz. tequila

1/2 oz. Goldschlager

1/2 oz. Rumple Minze

This is another easy shooter recipe that adds a “pop” to a Fourth of July celebration. It may be a temptation to substitute a different cinnamon schnapps, but resist temptation. The gold flakes lend to the popping firecracker effect that makes this shooter such a fun choice for the holiday.

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a shot glass to serve.
