Halloween is right around the corner, but that isn’t my reason for posting this particular drink recipe.  You see, I take little Harley Doodle to the vet today for his annual check-up, so I thought it was oddly appropriate.

Black Cat

humphrey Pictures, Images and Photos

1 oz. vodka
1 oz. cherry brandy
cranberry juice
cola

Pour the vodka and brandy into a highball glass filled with ice.
Fill the glass with equal amounts of cranberry juice and cola
.

This is one Black Cat you won’t mind having cross your path. At first glance, you may think that the flavor combination is a little strange, but it’s actually very good.

Before we get to our Drink of the Month, I just have to share the news that REAL MEN LAST ALL NIGHT is currently #23 on the New York Times Bestseller list!

Ohmigod!  Ohmigod!  Whoo-hoo! Whoo-hoo!

I realize, of course, that I didn’t have a heck of a lot to do with this.  Only a handful of people—most of them our very own Darlings of The Dungeon, I would guess —probably bought the book because my name was on it, but I was in the room when the magic happened, so I’m going to step up & take at least part of the credit.  One quarter?  One-sixth?  One-eighteenth?  Well, it’ll be something, anyway.  You just see if I don’t!

The Firecracker

1/2 oz. tequila

1/2 oz. Goldschlager

1/2 oz. Rumple Minze

This is another easy shooter recipe that adds a “pop” to a Fourth of July celebration. It may be a temptation to substitute a different cinnamon schnapps, but resist temptation. The gold flakes lend to the popping firecracker effect that makes this shooter such a fun choice for the holiday.

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a shot glass to serve.

This month’s Drink of the Month was sent to me by a close friend, who just thought it sounded yummy.  I think it sounds yummy, too, & perfect for the start of summer!

My friend has also requested that if anyone is brave enough to try this, please let me know so I can let her know…she may just take a stab at whipping up a batch herself if it’s not too complicated & tastes as delicious as it sounds.

Hibiscus Tea with Vodka and Citrus

Hibiscus Martini Pictures, Images and Photos

4 cups water

2 cups (2oz.) dried sweetened hibiscus flowers, dried rose petals, rose hip, or Red Zinger tea bags

1/3 – 1/2 cup sugar to taste

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 cup vodka, chilled

1 cup citrus juice

In medium sauce pan, combine water, hibiscus flowers, and sugar over medium-high heat. Bring to boil until sugar has dissolved.  Let cool 25 minutes, then add lemon juice, lime juice, and vodka.  Place ice in a tall pitcher.  Strain tea into pitcher and discard flowers.  Chill and serve.  Makes 4-6 servings.

super Sunday

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Good morning, everybody!  Hope you’re all enjoying a lovely, lazy Sunday.

I am pleased to say that I have a lot to be feeling super about this week, but I can’t really talk about it yet, so you’re just going to have to wait for the 4-1-1.

In the meantime, however, I’ve got prizes to hand out from last week’s  “What Would You Do…?” May giveaway—a set of THE WRITE INGREDIENTSRecipes from Your Favorite Authors, edited by Lori Foster, & BEYOND HEAVING BOSOMSThe Smart Bitches’ Guide to Romance Novels by Sarah Wendell & Candy Tan.

Ready?

Hollie!!!

Congratulations, Hollie! You win because your answer was not only short & succinct, but also embodied the spirit of The Dungeon & Mistress Heidi’s wicked sense of humor. Another acceptable answer would have been “Anything I want.

Please contact me with your mailing information & I’ll get your prize sent out to you as soon as I can.

Thank you to everyone for playing along, & also for the little side notes & private e-mails you sent telling me these were the most fun giveaways you’d ever participated in.  Mistress Heidi & I are very happy to hear it, & we’ll try our best to hold more in the future.

In addition, I’ll say that I’m quite thankful today that my Darlings of the Dungeon are so laid back that you let me get away with celebrating Memorial Day a week late—at least according to the “observed” holiday—giving me a chance to post some extra Funnies & Sexies.

And also, I’m very happy that the new season of Burn Notice will be starting soon.  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve missed my adorable Michael Westin.

How about the rest of you?  Anything you’re grateful for this week that you’d like to share?

Ever think of making your own egg nog, rather than simply picking up a quart in the dairy section of the super market?  Here’s how:

Egg Nog

Pitcher and Glasses of Egg Nog Pictures, Images and Photos

12 eggs

1-1/2 cups granulated sugar

8 half-pint containers light cream

4 half-pint containers heavy cream

1 quart whiskey

1/2 cup rum

1/2 cup brandy

Separate eggs & beat whites until stiff.  Keep whites cold.

Beat yolks in a large bowl.  Gradually beat in sugar.

Pour into large saucepan & heat well, stirring constantly.  (Do not let eggs cook through.)  Remove from heat & stir in liquor.

Place mixture in punch bowl.  Add light cream slowly & mix well.  Folk in beaten egg whites.

Beat heavy cream until stiff & fold into mixture.

Sprinkle with nutmeg to taste.
