Thoughts from bestselling, award-winning romance author Heidi Betts (and her alter-ego, Mistress Heidi) on her Works-in-Progress and the many links in the chain that keeps her shackled to her desk until each new project is polished and complete.

are you a Heidi Betts Street Walker?

With the release of KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP only 25 short days away—February 2nd…have I mentioned yet that it will be out February 2nd???!!!—I warned you that The Dungeon would be hopping this month…& probably next, too!…& that there would be more very fun giveaways in your future.  (It’s like I’m psychic or something. )

So are you a member of the Heidi Betts’s Street Walkers Street Team yet?

If not, now is definitely the time to join.

Basically, the Street Walkers is a group of dedicated readers who chat up my books online…use word of mouth to promote new titles through their blogs, review sites, etc….& are willing to run around to local bookstores and retail outlets the first week or so of a new book’s release with promotional items that I provide to get the word out about new releases to readers & booksellers.

KNOCK shelftalker

(the shelf-talkers)

Knock bookmark front

(the bookmarks)

For more information on that, visit the Heidi Betts’s Street Walkers website, where my Street Team leader (aka Huggy Bear *g*) has all the details & explains all the ways you can help get the word out about my books.

And with the release of KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP right around the corner, I need my Street Walkers more than ever!

To those of you who have already signed up to become a Heidi Betts Street Walker—thank you very much! If you haven’t yet been in touch with Huggy Bear/Darling Laura J. to request the number of promo items you need (shelf talkers & bookmarks) to spread the word about KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP, please do so as soon as possible by e-mailing ctgmom at insightbb dot com (replacing “at” with “@” & “dot” with “.” & using no spaces in between, of course). And put something like “Street Team items request” in the header so she’ll know what’s up. Be sure, too, that she has your current/updated e-mail & mailing addresses, okay?!

If you are NOT a Street Walker, but would like to be, you can also e-mail Huggy Bear/Darling Laura J. at ctgmom at insightbb dot com (replacing “at” with “@” & “dot” with “.” & using no spaces in between), & using “I want to be a Street Walker!” in the subject line. Please include your name, e-mail, & mailing address, as well as letting her know how many shelf-talkers & bookmarks you’d like to receive for your promo efforts this time around.

So where’s the giveaway part of today’s post? you might be wondering. She did mention a giveaway, didn’t she?

I know, I’m such a tease.

But here it is:

GIVEAWAY #1 — To one current member of my Street Walkers Street Team, I will be giving away an autographed ARC of KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP, which have just come in & are hot off the presses.

GIVEAWAY #2 — To one NEW member of my Street Walkers Street Team, I will also be giving away an autographed ARC of KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP.

That’s two chances for a sneak peek at “Chicks with Sticks” Book 3, Zack & Grace’s story, as a thank-you to those of you who do so much to help me get the word out about my stories.

I’ll run this giveaway until JANUARY 15, 2010, since we need time to get you added to or updated on the Street Team list & also get those handy dandy promo items in the mail so you’ll have them by the time KNOCK ME FOR A LOOP comes out!

So don’t waste a minute…sign up or make your promo item request NOW!

And thank you in advance for being the best readers a romance author could ask for.

    do it….you know you wanna…

  2. barb says:

ok you twisted my arm I can do that, sounds easy enough after all I am one of your most faithful fans going back to the article in the Progress years ago where I discovered you and your first book, I have all of them some I have doubles that are autographed from the good old days when you signed them for the local supermarkets and some I sent to you to sign..I’ll peddle your stuff to local bookstores, have lots within a few miles of me in all directions…

  3. Laura J. says:

Hey Barb–don’t forget to email me. I’m getting ready to head out for a “3 hour tour Gilligan Special” (okay-so it’s not really a tropical cruise and more like the Iditirod but it’s normally a 2 hour drive and I’m guessing 4 hours for today) thanks to some cruel work by mother nature.

  4. Maisey says:

There’s a serious danger that I won’t be leaving the house for the next three months…three kids in diapers and, oh, did I mention my editor sent me revisions on my second book for Christmas? Santa must have been out of coal…

But, cyber promotion I can do. Heck, my job, other than changing diapers, is sitting at the computer and I dearly LOVE to waste time online when I should be writing.

And since Heidi’s When the Lights Go Down was the very first category romance I ever read, and that started me down my road to category addiction, which lead to category publication, I think I owe her one.

  5. Maisey says:

I can spell, BTW. I promise.

  6. Hollie says:

I’ve already shined my High heels and fluffed up my boa…..just waiting to hit the streets!!

  7. barb says:

Hollie, Hollie, Hollie NO NO NO wrong kind of streetwalker, that one can get you arrested..

Maisey, how is the newest little angel??? You have the best job in the world, being home with babies is a job that all the money in the world can’t buy, plus writing…. Girl you got it GOOOOD!!!! Enjoy every minute.

  8. Maisey says:

Barb, she’s doing great! Happy to be home! I have kids all over me right now…wearing baby, two year old trying to get in my lap, three year old throwing a fit on the floor…

Yes. I have the best job in the world. Home with my kids, which I love, and someone is PAYING me to write. Seriously, don’t tell them, but I would PAY to write…

  9. Heidi says:

Maisey~ How is it possible that at this moment, we are living the exact same life? (Wearing one baby, another throwing a tantrum, another trying to get on the lap…I’m telling you, there is *not* that much difference between cats & kids. ) So glad the little one is home with you now & doing so well!

Was LIGHTS *really* the very first category romance you ever read? That is sooooooo coooooool. Of course you don’t *owe* me for that—tho you’re welcome all the same —but anything you’d be willing to do to get the word out about KNOCK would be much appreciated. And if you want me to send you a couple shelf-talkers & bookmarks *just in case* you do get out sometime next month, I will. Better safe than sorry. (Tho I know what you mean; I just called & made an appt somewhere & said, “Look, if we don’t do this next week, it ain’t getting done cuz I’m about to be knee-deep in another deadline.”

Hollie~ You can wear anything you like when you hit the streets to talk up my books. I mean, one never knows…the heels & boa might get them even more attention. Flash a little boob & I’d be willing to bet my male audience will increase substantially.

Barb~ Great to have you on board! Like Laura said, be sure to e-mail her so can get you on the list & keep track of how many promo items you think you can use. I’ll be sending them out probably next week, so the timing is perfect. And it really is easy—if you just keep a few bookmarks & shelf-talkers in your purse or car, then any time you’re in a bookstore, Wal-Mart, whatever, & my books are there, you’re set!

  10. Maisey says:

It really was the first one. I had a read a couple of romances and wasn’t overly impressed, read Lights and was hooked. Then discovered Presents. Presents and Desire are still my faves.

That’s all just been a little over two years…it’s been a busy two years!

And yeah, might as well send stuff, if nothing else, I’ll be able to stick them on my fridge and think ‘maybe I’ll go somewhere today…’

Thankfully, my deadline isn’t looming overly much at the moment, but I still feel the pressure!

  11. Hollie says:

    Thank You Heidi…so there barb
i will be taking my DH with me and that is all the boob i will be showing!!! I just laughed so hard i think i peed a little!!!

  12. Heidi says:

That is so cool, Maisey. Now I’m feeling all warm & fuzzy. Or maybe I’m having a hot flash. *snicker*

Hollie~ I laughed so hard at that, I think I peed a little, too. I don’t think we should tell your hubby you said that, tho.

Y’know, I don’t even like the show very much, but I have to say that I could look at that poster of NCIS: Los Angeles (in the sidebar) all day.

  13. Dee says:

Hey guys. I must admit I have pimp the series out to at least 3 of my friends. Yes, I pimp books, not recommend them. To get my friend Joy and I together is a dangerous proposition, especially when we use her Borders discount.

    I will definitely join though.

  14. Dee says:

    *pimped*

I really need to proofread my stuff.

  15. Maisey says:

You’re only twenty nine, Heidi, you’re too young for hot flashes.

Yeah, first category and Desire was a Heidi Betts, fir Presents was Miranda Lee. :-) I can’t remember what the Presents was though…I still have the copy of Lights!

  16. Beverly G says:
