home from WRW
I've fallen behind, as usual. I'm back from last weekend's WRW Retreat in Harpers Ferry, WV. Had a great time--met tons of people & signed a bunch of books at Turn the Page before the Retreat, then spent the rest of the weekend chatting with friends. And, hey, I finally found someone who enjoys THE WATERBOY & DEEP BLUE SEA as much as I do. (Don't laugh! They're good movies, darn it!) Came home exhaused, but (ironically) refreshed. Then it was time to jump back into work--I've been putting together a new Desire proposal, had a CARA meeting, have some contest entries to read & return within the next couple weeks, & I also need to get a jump on my Desire continuity book. And my mother is retiring this week! Her last day of work is June 3rd, then she'll be done, forever & always. Not sure what she plans to do afterwards...except maybe sleep for a solid week. But knowing my mom, she'll keep herself busy. She always has her fingers in a dozen different pies. And she's already agreed to be my beck & call girl...oops, I mean assistant. Helping me with research, filing, envelope stuffing, etc. My office is a disaster area; it needs an ex-librarian's organized touch.

happy cats
Fancy Feast Gourmet Gold cat food rocks! At least according to my four felines. I picked up a few containers last time I was at the store. They've never had this kind before, so I thought I'd see if they liked it. Of course, I'm using it as a snack, not as a main dry food. And I wouldn't say they just "like" it. I didn't think they could possibly enjoy any snackies as much as they did Friskies Liver & Chicken treats, but every time I shake the canister of this new stuff, they come running. They huddle together, looking like a group of strays who haven't eaten in a month, focused on grabbing up every single chicken & turkey morsel they can find. And then they want more! It's too cute. You can hear them chewing, too...it sounds like kernels of corn going off in a popcorn popper all at once. So the concensus is that Fancy Feast dry food is good. I will definitely be picking up more the next time I run to town. I'd better or the kiddos might get upset & start organizing a revolt.

finally!
My author copies of BLAME IT ON THE BLACKOUT finally arrived today. Hip-hip-hooray! I jumped up & ran to the door as soon as I heard the truck pull up to the house. The UPS man laughed...he knew I'd be waiting. :-D Also, After the Wedding... lives again! Maybe. I've been brainstorming with my editor about what type of story I'll do next, & the one we've come up with actually seems to suit the title at the moment. So I may be my ellipses, after all. I won't get my hopes up, just in case. Even if I use that as the title while writing the ms., there's a fair chance it will be changed during production. Now it's time for lunch...past time, actually...& I need to get my butt working on not only this new synopsis, but the opening chapter of MISTER & MISTRESS. Oh, & I have a hair appointment tomorrow, to get ready for the WRW Retreat. Hmm, wonder how it will turn out. If my hair woes of recent months are any indication, it may not be pretty.

I'm so excited!
I just found out that my workshop proposal "Writing Category: Breaking In & Staying In" has been accepted for Southern Tier RWA's "STARt Your Enginges" conference in Ithaca, NY, September 9th & 10th.
Eeek! Now I'm nauseous. This will be my first real speaking engagement...other than speaking at libraries or small writing groups. But I wanted to do it, so I guess I'll have to suck it up & start preparing my notes. I've got a lot of the information already lined up, it just needs to be fleshed out & put in order. Of course, I also hae another Desire due by September, so methinks I'm going to be quite busy for the next four months.
On the title front, I think we've decided on SEVEN-YEAR SEDUCTION. It's not quite as great as "After the Wedding dot-dot-dot", but it does fit the story. I finished proofing the ms. today & printed all the chapters. All that's left to do is write a super-HEA epilogue...I just feel like it needs one. So if I can get that done tonight, I can get the book in the mail in the morning.

sadness
I'm sitting here, minding my own business, revising & polishing the ms. I just finished, when I get an e-mail from my editor. (Okay, so I had to actually log on & check my mailbox for that to happen, but it beats going cross-eyed from proofing ms. pages.) Anyway, she says we can't use After the Wedding... as the title for the February book now because there's another book with "wedding" in the title the same month that she'd forgotten about. Well, pooh. I liked that title. And I really liked the ellipses. What do you think my chances are of getting another title with ellipses at the end? Zip, that's what. Talk about depressing. I'd already gone in & added the title to the header of every chapter, too. And on my Print & Go Booklist for the website...& on the disk...& in my diary...& I told all my friends... There--that's some overuse of ellipses; maybe I can get them out of my system. :-) But now we're back to square one as far as titles are concerned. I'm hoping some words or phrases will jump out at me while I'm polishing the ms., but so far I haven't spotted anything.
