happy new year!

Happy New Year, everyone! It won't be long now...at least not here on the East Coast. :-)

I am, of course, wishing you all a happy, safe, & prosperous New Year. And I hope you're all doing something fun tonight to ring in 2007. (Aack! Can you believe it's 2007 already? I remember when it was still 1999 & everyone was frantic over the Y2K disaster that never quite happened. LOL)

Around here, we're doing the German thing, which basically means eating saurkraut, pork roast, hot dogs, & other assorted meats in casings. (Ick. Okay, so I only do the first two or three things, even though I'm probably risking a full year of bad luck by cutting corners on the traditional New Year's Eve dinner preparations. Guess I'm just not that German. :-P)

I am also wearing red underwear & a yellow shirt... Don't ask me exactly why. My mother, the research librarian, got it into her head to research good luck New Year's traditions from around the world, & that's what she came up with. I wasn't listening closely enough to remember which countries do what, but I'm afraid I'll bring bad luck upon myself in the New Year if I don't do some of these things. (And I have to do something to make up for not eating all those meats in casings, don't I?)

There are also some New Year's traditions that have to do with pine cones, bagels, a bucket of dirty water, grapes...sheesh, I can't remember them all. But I've got my red underwear, yellow shirt (Spongebob counts, right?!?), & I choked down a bite of saurkraut.

What more do you want from me? :-P
