is it just me...
This is for those of you who write...Is it just me, or do you have to have character names & a working title for a story before you can really begin to work on it?
At the moment, I'm supposed to be plotting out my beach novella. I even have the whole idea sort of mapped out in my head. But darned if I can seem to get started on it until I have names for my hero and heroine.
I also needed to come up with a working title before things started to gel for me. Even if it's only a working title, & I know (or strongly suspect) it will be changed later, I need it. A title & character names are the two--or should that be three?--things I have to have figured out before I can sit down to plot a new project or start a synopsis. I think it helps me to feel more in touch with the story & who the characters are.
So that's where I am now, trying to come up with the perfect names. And I'm wondering how other writers work. Can you jump into a project without knowing any of that type of stuff, & fill in the blanks later? Or do you need to know your characters' names so you can begin to really know their personalities? Or maybe you're even one of those who has the title &/or character names come to them first, then builds a story around them.
Let me know. In the meantime, I'll be skimming through my many baby name books, trying to come up with the perfect names for these new characters. :-)
