good news?
My mother did finally get a call from her doctor's office this afternoon & was able to talk to a nurse she's known for years. Turns out the mammogram needs to be redone because there was a "dense" or "incomplete" area on the film & they need a clearer image so they can really see what's going on. She's not out of the woods yet, but this is definitely an improvement over knowing nothing or thinking the worst. The nurse also assured her they hadn't spotted anything out of the ordinary on the first mammogram, so there's a chance this second one will turn out just as well as all of the others she's had these past couple years. Yay!
I talked to a friend about all of this today, & she immediately told me not to worry, that she's had to have a number of mammograms redone for various reasons, too, & that they've always turned out okay. But once you've had a cancer scare, you tend to turn gun-shy about these things, so I don't think I (or my mom) will really breathe easy until we know for sure what's going on.
This is definitely a step in the right direction, tho, & I think we'll both sleep better tonight from having this new information. :-)
