butterfly update
For the past week, Dudley & The Other One have been tucked safely into their bright green cocoons. Every day, they look pretty much the same.
Until today. Today, Dudley's crysallis began to turn dark. First dark green, then almost black. And little by little, I could begin to make out the shape of the butterfly inside. The curve of the wings, and each individual spot where the colors would be. Now, I can actually see the oranges & blacks forming. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. There are even specks of gold on the outside of the crysallis.
I'm guessing Dudley will break out & be a butterfly by morning. I'd love to see the transformation, but these things always seem to happen while I'm asleep. I did stick a little cap of sugar water inside the critter carrier, tho, just in case. Even after the butterflies emerge, we're supposed to keep them for a couple hours until their wings harden completely, & they'll need food while that happens.
I can't wait! I'm gonna be a butterfly mama!
